What Decides the Price
There is no mystery to it. Four things move a junk removal quote, and knowing them means you can tell straight away whether a number you have been given is reasonable.
How much space it takes up
Junk removal is priced by volume — how much of the truck bed your material fills, not how many individual pieces there are. A single bulky sofa can take more room than a whole garage of flattened boxes.
What it weighs
The transfer station charges us by the ton, and heavy material moves the price more than bulky material does. Concrete, tile, dirt, roofing and plaster all weigh far more per cubic yard than furniture or cardboard.
How hard it is to reach
A pile already sitting in an open driveway is quicker than the same pile down two flights of stairs, through a narrow gate, or at the back of a unit with a long carry to where the truck can legally park.
What the material actually is
Some items carry their own disposal fee no matter how small they are. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners contain refrigerant that has to be recovered properly before the unit can be scrapped.
What's Included, and What Costs Extra
Always included in your quote
- All labour and loading — you do not have to move anything to the kerb
- Transport to a permitted transfer station or recycling facility
- Standard disposal fees for general household and construction material
- A sweep-up of the area once the load is on the truck
Quoted separately, and always up front
- Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units, which carry a refrigerant recovery fee
- Unusually heavy loads such as concrete, dirt, tile or roofing, charged on the additional tonnage
- Long carries, multiple flights of stairs or access that needs a second crew member
- Return trips where the material was substantially different to what was described
None of these are surprises. If any apply to your job, they are in the number you agree to before the work starts.
What We Can't Price at All
Worth knowing before you spend a phone call. These are not extra-cost items — they are material we are not set up to carry, and no quote we give covers them.
We can't take
- Hazardous waste, chemicals, paint, solvents or asbestos
- Tyres, wet paint, medical waste or ammunition
- Anything requiring a hazardous materials endorsement to transport
Hazardous material has to go to a facility built for it — sending it out on a general load is how it ends up somewhere it should not be. If you are not sure which pile something falls in, ask us before the truck is booked. It costs you nothing, and it is cheaper than the wasted trip it saves.
Common Questions
Do I need to be there when you arrive?
Not always. If the material is outside and reachable, and you are comfortable confirming the price and paying remotely, we can handle it without you on site. For anything inside a property, or where somebody needs to decide what stays and what goes, it is better if you or somebody you trust is there.
Why can you not just give me a price over the phone?
Usually we can, and we will. The times we cannot are when the description leaves too much room — "a garage full of stuff" can be half a truck or three. In those cases we will either ask for photos or give you an honest range, and confirm the exact figure before anybody starts loading.
Is the quote you give me the price I pay?
Yes. Once we have seen the material and quoted it, that is the price. The only thing that changes it is if what is actually there is materially different from what was described — and if that happens we stop and tell you before we load, not after.
Can I just put it out for the city instead?
Often, yes, and if that works for you it is cheaper than we are. Las Vegas residential accounts include a bulky item pickup on a schedule. Where it does not help is when the item is inside your property rather than at the kerb, when it is a refrigerator or air conditioner, when it is construction debris, when it is too big for the limits, when you need it gone before the next scheduled pickup, or when it is a business or a multifamily unit rather than a single-family home.
Do you charge a call-out fee if I decide not to book?
No. Quotes are free and there is no obligation. If the number does not work for you, that is a perfectly reasonable answer and we would rather you said so.
How do you take payment?
We will confirm the accepted methods when we quote the job. Payment is due once the work is finished and you are happy with it, never before.
